Well it has finally happened. A childhood dream has come true. From the time he was 8 Jeff has wanted to be a pilot. As of last week, its official. Jeff is licensed by the government to fly a private plane!
For the last 2 years Jeff has been taking lessons. He first passed ground school. Then he began taking flight lessons. He has been very determined. A lesson here... a lesson there as he could fit it into his schedule. Then the nerve-racking "check flight" where for 4 hours an instructor tested his knowledge and skill.
I must tell you its a pretty weird feeling to see your 18 year old son climb into a plane by himself and fly to Cincinnati knowing he will be traveling over Columbus airspace. Hey, what if he gets lost???
Its even more weird to actually fly with him and sit in the co-pilot seat without knowing anything about how to fly a plane, what all those gadgets mean, and that there's absolutely nothing you can do to help him get that big hunk of metal on the ground.
However, its also really cool to have complete confidence in your child to do something you can't. To sit there and watch him "grease" the landing.
So congratulations to Jeff! He said he was going to be a pilot and he did it. His next goal is to go to commercial flight school so that he can fly professionally for a commercial airline. Maybe some day you will be sitting on the runway and here, "Hello ladies and gentlemen. This is Jeff, your captain speaking..."
